Why so many cells say Not verified

Research depth here is uneven, and the table shows that rather than hiding it. A cell reading Not verified is a statement about what we have checked, not about what the company offers, and we would rather leave it empty than fill it from a guess.

There is no ranking and no winner. Which of these mechanics matters most depends on your animal, and a waiting period that is irrelevant for a healthy puppy can be the whole question for an older dog.

Companies to show

The bar on each company is how many of the 6 policy mechanics below we have verified for it. Every company recorded as writing pet insurance has at least one of them verified, so they all start switched on.

Methodology

How this tool works, and what it will not tell you

Every cell in this table is a stored fact read through the same gated accessor the rest of the site uses, printed with its source and the date it was last checked. A cell reads "Not verified" when we have not researched that attribute for that company. That is a statement about our research, not about the company, and we would rather leave it blank than fill it from a guess. There is no score, no ranking, no winner and no category label naming a winner for any particular animal. Which of these mechanics matters depends on your animal's age and history, and that is not something a table can decide for you. This tool produces no premium, no quote and no savings figure. Pricing depends on rate filings and underwriting data this site does not hold, so any number we printed there would be invented. We would rather show you the arithmetic we can stand behind.

Assumptions

  • The companies listed are those whose recorded products include pet insurance, and that product record is itself evidenced by a claim.
  • Where a company offers several plans, a stored value describes what the source stated and may not cover every plan the company sells.

Limitations

  • Research depth is uneven. Most companies in this table have several unverified cells, and a few have almost nothing verified yet.
  • No premium, no quote and no reimbursement estimate.
  • Pre-existing condition definitions and the exact wording of an exclusion are where pet policies differ most, and a short cell cannot carry that wording. Read the sample policy.
  • Nothing here is scored or ranked, so the table will not tell you which company to pick.

This tool cites no outside source, because it adds up the numbers you type and nothing else. Where a figure comes from somewhere, the figure carries the citation.
